Every year,
Every school that enters has a chance of winning. Your proposal doesn't have to be high-tech or expensive. We are looking for innovative projects that engage students and spark their interest in science.
Very often it is the simplest ideas that spark excitement from pupils. The first ever Science Prize winners Crown Woods School came up with the innovative idea of turning their school into a CSI department. Judges rewarded the idea for its enterprise not its expense!
"An area of land behind our school was once a refuse site and a wasted natural resource.
Through the Rolls-Royce Science Prize, our school has to turn it into a place of adventure and
scientific learning. Based on Darwin's expeditions, pupils carried out their own expedition in the
'uncharted territory' behind the school, where they identified, classified and illustrated wildlife
and fauna, along with performing experiments devised by the pupils, enabling them to experience
science in a very practical way."
Robert Moores - St Stephen and All Martyrs' Primary School
Many participating teachers have found that the process helped them enormously with their professional development. Entrants thought the time spent entering the competition has been beneficial in the long term both to teachers, pupils and their schools.
Entering the competition is also a great way for Scottish teachers to fulfil their CPD requirements, both during their working week, and as part of their additional 35 hours per annum.
"The exercise was good in that it allowed us to carefully examine where we wished to be from
where we are now. As the entry was made on behalf of several schools it also helped collate ideas."
John Kinchin - The Kings School
We work with more than 25 organisations from education, government, industry and academia to ensure that the Rolls-Royce Science Prize can actively help science teachers achieve their goals.
So why not enter and become part of the Science Prize community?
Make contact with other schools, share ideas and help to deliver high quality science teaching.
