Terms and conditions
- Eligibility
- Entrants to be connected with a school or college
- Entrants to be residents of the UK, Republic of Ireland, Channel
Islands or the Isle of Man
- Entrants or members of the entrant's team must be in a
position to attend the prize giving ceremony conducted by Rolls-Royce
- Entrants to be over 18 years of age
- Entries
- There is no minimum or maximum number of entries per school or
college
- There will be no restrictions on the number of times that one
entrant can win the Rolls-Royce Science Prize
- Entries must be submitted via the Rolls-Royce Science Prize website
- Entries must be submitted on the official Rolls-Royce entry form
located on the website and not by any other means
- The closing date for year 3 entries is 29 February 2008
- By submitting an entry the entrant is bound by these terms and
conditions and is deemed to have accepted them
- Any late, illegible, incomplete, defaced or corrupt entries will
be disqualified
- Entries containing incorrect or false information or personal
details invalidate the entry
- Teams
- Entries must be submitted by a team comprising a minimum of 3
members and a maximum of 6
- More than one team, comprising different team members, can be
entered from any school or college
- Teams can be made up from different schools or colleges which
collaborate to form an eligible team
- Teams can be made up of head teachers, deputy head teachers,
teachers, teaching assistants, school governors, parents, representatives
of commerce and industry and any other adults deemed eligible at the discretion
of the school or college
- Judging
- Judges' decision will be final and binding. No correspondence will be entered
into
- Shortlisted teams will be notified by May 2008
- If a prize is not accepted by a particular entrant the prize lapses
- Promotion
- Entries will be held and displayed on the website
- The progress of the shortlisted teams will be charted on the
website throughout their project. The shortlisted teams agree
to take part in publicity/promotion required by Rolls-Royce
- The material recorded on the digital cameras by the shortlisted
teams belongs to Rolls-Royce, as do the entries
- The overall Rolls-Royce Science Prize winning and runner-up teams
agree to take part in publicity/promotion with Rolls-Royce
- Prizes
- £5,000* will be given to the nine shortlisted teams to spend
on the implementation of their projects
- The digital cameras given to each shortlisted teams must be used
to record the implementation of their projects
- The overall Rolls-Royce Science Prize winning and runner-up teams
will receive a further £15,000* and £10,000* respectively
- All prize money is given to the entrants on condition that all
the prize money is used for the advancement of science teaching in their school or college
- Liability
Rolls-Royce accepts no liability for:
- Death or personal injury resulting from experiments
- Prize money spent by a third party and not for the benefit of
a school or college
- Entries lost or delayed in transmission
- Faults with the digital camera
- Misuse of the digital camera by the entrants, team or third parties
- Events outside the control of Rolls-Royce
- The competition can be varied or amended at any stage at the
absolute discretion of Rolls-Royce
- No liability to be attached to Rolls-Royce as a result of variations
or amendments to the Rolls-Royce Science Prize programme
- Lost or Damaged Entries
- Rolls-Royce accepts no liability for lost or damaged entries
- Proof of submitting an entry is not proof of receipt
- Inventions etc
- The projects displayed on the website are to be used for the
benefit of schools and colleges only and a third party must obtain the
written approval of Rolls-Royce if they intend to use a project posted
on the site
- Intellectual Property
- All the intellectual property arising out of the project shall
be assigned to Rolls-Royce at the time of creation.
- Rolls-Royce will grant an irrevocable, perpetual, non-exclusive,
royalty-free licence to the entrants to use the intellectual property
arising out of the project
- Entrants must undertake to submit original work
- Governing Law
- Entrants agree to be bound by the laws of England and Wales and
submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts
- Data Protection Act
- Rolls-Royce and any of its sub-contractors authorised to support
the Rolls-Royce Science Prize are registered under the Data Protection
Act. Entrants agree that their personal data may be processed for all
purposes connected with the operation of the Science Prize
- No Third Party Rights
- These terms and conditions are made for the benefit of the entrants
and Rolls-Royce and are not intended to benefit, or be enforceable, by anyone
else
