Films, Conferences, Exhibitions
These were still very busy months as we had to produce our 15min and 4min films to tell our story. Due to the success of the project we had been kept very busy and had 11 tapes of filming to trawl through! Thanks to Wendy Sheen our technical support on the project we have survived ………….just!
Work with the exhibition is still evolving! Merseybio a facility for developing biotechnology businesses at Liverpool University has asked to show case our work later in the year. Our exhibition was seen in the park and is just the type of artwork they are interested in showing which brings together creativity and science. It also looks brilliant too! Before then however, we have been asked to exhibit the work at Clatterbrige Hospital oncology department in Bebington. Four of the original students are working on a piece of new artwork that highlights the evolutionary nature of cancer cells and the importance of Darwin’s theory in the development of treatments to combat cancer cells.
Patsy Lofthouse spoke about the project at Wirral Head of Science meeting and Tracey Reed took it to the North West Science Consultancy meeting as an example of good practise. Christine Murtagh ran a workshop at a Science Specialist school conference, on the techniques we used to encourage debate and the cross curricular nature of the project. She is also running a workshop in July at the Merseyside Science Conference, along with the artist Philip Garrett.
We also want to extend the primary element next year and link in with a primary school in New York. Central Park is based on Birkenhead Park and we did try to get a similar project running along side ours in New York. However within the time frame it was not possible, but links have been made for future projects.
It has been a very busy year, with all team members working to their strengths. We are all immensely proud of what the students have achieved and very grateful to all the support and help we have received from the wider team. In particularly; Philip Garrett, CLC staff at both Discovery and Learning Lighthouse, the Park Rangers and the staff of Prenton High, Park High, Rock Ferry, Wirral Grammar Girls and Boys, Wallasey School, Upton Hall, Ridgeway School, Bedford Drive, Well Lane, Brakenwood, Mersey Park, Woodchurch Road and Christchurch Primary School.
