January 2009
At last after much rehearsal and a lot of worry (our yr 12 pupils are not drama students) we have managed to put together a show! It has been harder than we thought it would be... so many things we didn’t think about before came up and we had to adjust our script as logistical problems arose. However, we have performed in front of our yr 9 pupils at Croesyceiliog School and the initial fear is over, especially because we had some important guests that came to see our play. In fact, we invited the Partnership Manager of Techniquest (Cardiff), the Torfaen LEA Science Advisor and two Lecturers from Newport University and, thankfully, they all had very encouraging comments. They said they thoroughly enjoyed the show and were impressed by the knowledge and understanding of our yr 12 pupils, but more importantly by their ability to communicate difficult concepts to a younger audience, and this was demonstrated by the answers our Yr 9 pupils (from an AEN class) were giving.
We were thoroughly galvanised by these outcomes and we will soon be performing in several schools in the LEA and Newport, where we will walk into the unknown in terms of the layout of their halls, equipment provided, type of audience... so we need a high morale to face the hard task ahead!
