Diary Entry - March

Just when we thought things were slowing down after our pupils' successes with their plays, we were asked by the Institute of Physics to run another workshop to build our modulated laser pen in St Cyres School, Penarth (Cardiff). So, we went back to our prep-room counting how many sets we had left to build a complete modulated laser pen and receiver, because by now our supplies were running down. This workshop was well attended too and once again our device didn't fail to amuse and amaze the audience. All teachers attending had lots of fun building their modulated laser pen and our project was spreading again in schools from South Wales!

We were also invited by the Association for Science Education (ASE) to give a seminar about our Rolls-Royce Science Project and that was great fun, because I actually got to act myself! In fact, being an evening event in Techniquest (Cardiff), not many year 12 pupils could attend and we were short staffed! So, with our faithful pupil Ben Lewis, we performed the prelude to the play and then demonstrated how our device works. Finally, we explained how we got involved with the Rolls-Royce Science Prize and it was encouraging for the attending teachers to see that you don't have to be a super duper school to be part of this prize, but just show good initiative and willingness.
