The larger steam distillation kit has arrived from the states. Steam distillation on the large scale has produced a much larger quantity of oil, and we have extracted lavender, lemon, orange and ginger oil. The senior students have started to plan lessons for the lower years. Ultimately the aim is to produce a lesson kit including PowerPoint presentation, worksheets, video and other resources on how steam distillation works. This kit will be distributed to other school in the area.

This month the paint team have created several more pigments including greens and blues. We obtained several different oils, and attempted to mix some of our pigments with oil to make our first paint. To gain some expert advice on paints, we have made contact with a member of the paint industry who has given us some ideas which we will now research further. Also, as a side project, one member of the team has researched Azo dyes and is now conducting experiments to make them in the laboratory.
