The aim of our project is to enthuse pupils at Bramhall High School to continue to study chemistry beyond GCSE.
To do this we are holding “fun and exciting” chemistry sessions alongside a chemistry trip and a visit to univerisity or industry for the pupils.
The two week Easter break fell within April however the team have been still been working hard. Roy Quartey-Papafio from Rolls Royce visited us on the Monday after the break to see how we were getting on and he appeared happy with the progress we had made.
The following Wednesday was the first INSET session. It was a physics based session and it was recorded for our final video. All the keystage three teachers learnt how to wire plugs and how to safely deliver this to a class. We looked at how a reed switch works and applications of this component. We also observed how to safely handle a model of a working power station. It was a very positive experience with many teachers adding their tips to the session. It allowed us to develop our science skills and boosted morale in the department also!
Other developments this month involve organising some ex-Bramhall High pupils to come in from college to speak to the pupils. The date is yet to be confirmed.
Next Tuesday (27th April) Simon Pank and Phil Cockbill are coming to the school to film for the Awards Dinner in October.
