Diary Entry - December

The aim of our project is to enthuse pupils at Bramhall High School to continue to study chemistry beyond GCSE.

To do this we are holding “fun and exciting” chemistry sessions alongside a chemistry trip and a visit to univerisity or industry for the pupils.

010 December imageSince November the Rolls Royce Media Event has taken place. This involved the local MP, Mark Hunter, coming to the school and enjoying some chemistry with the pupils involved. Below he is demonstrating the flame test for sodium.

He also got to use a thermochromic coaster the pupils had made as well as setting his hand on fire (under controlled conditions obviously!) to demonstrate the energy capabilities of methane, a fossil fuel. This is a powerful tool to get pupils, and Mr Hunter, thinking about renewable energy sources for the future compared to the non renewable ones we currently use.

Opportunities and ideas are now being sought for the next chemistry session.....
