Overview

The team aim to encourage, inspire and motivate 11-16 yrs pupils in Chemistry by forming a “Chemistry Group” which will engage high, middle and lower attaining pupils in Chemistry at KS4 and help to increase the confidence of non specialist teachers at teaching chemistry at KS3.

At least two “chemistry sessions”” will be developed for each category of pupils; these will involve practical and enquiry skills. It will also involve contemporary science found in the news in preparation for their “Science in the News” coursework at KS4.

Judges’ comments

This project shows strong evidence of professional development opportunities for the staff involved. It uses an innovative approach with strong links to children’s needs which are clearly segmented to meet individual pupil requirements.
