Diary Entry - March

The aim of our project is to enthuse pupils at Bramhall High School to continue to study chemistry beyond GCSE.

To do this we are holding “fun and exciting” chemistry sessions alongside a chemistry trip and a visit to univerisity or industry for the pupils.

This month has involved a lot of planning. Firstly the three INSET sessions have been organised for April 14th, April 21st, May 4th. The aim of these sessions is to develop the practical skills of Key Stage 3 teachers. Originally chemistry was going to be the main focus for these INSET sessionsbut having spoken to members of the department it was felt that a session on chemistry, physics and biology would be more useful. The outcome of these sessions is that the KS3 teacher would have a greater understanding and background knowledge of the practicals and demonstrations being carried out; therefore when using these in the classroom the pupils would be show a greater enthusiasm for science.

Amy Peace from Chemicals Northwest has offered to come in on April 27th to talk to the pupils involved in the Rolls Royce project. She will talk about how chemistry is used in industry and what the periodic table will look like in 2080 as well as taking any questions from the pupils.
