“Who Do We Trust?” Science in the Media Project
February has been quite a quiet month for our project. Year 9, who are our main focus, are coming to the end of their KS3 work and are due to have their final 2 assessments before embarking on their GCSE science courses.
We have, however, been keeping everyone up to date with the latest science headlines using our tickertape message boards which have finally been put up in the corridors. (How many men does it take to put up a sign? ....... Provide your own punch line.) We weren’t really expecting what happened next. The students stood in the corridors reading the words out loud in unison. It was rather like an episode of Doctor Who. We’ve also had many visits and comments from members of staff in other departments. It’s good that the Science department has created a bit of a buzz around the building.
The novelty has worn off a bit now but we are keeping up our awareness campaign by linking the headlines that we show to articles displayed on the “Science in the News” wall.
I am looking forward to the next half term when we can get the students more involved again.
