Overview

Haywood Engineering College is an 11-16 secondary school which has achieved Specialist Status in Engineering. The team’s project will challenge pupils to build a state-of-the-art Eco-Friendly homes that will address these issues of sustainability and be as ecologically friendly as possible.

Tests on scale models will assess the design's characteristics in simulated adverse weather conditions. The value of materials and their 'carbon cost' will also be calculated. Learners will showcase their work on the school's VLE and the Eco-Village produced will be a permanent teaching aid for future learners.

Judges’ comments

This proposal shows real depth with a very good grounding in real science. This real science content touches on an area of interest for pupils and is likely to spark their imaginations.
