Diary Entry - April

April_1The whole school participated in National Science Week, each class taking part in an extra Science lesson specially  designed for the week to fit in with an Earth theme. These ranged from making kites to making cheese, building land yachts and making recycled paper. Every child in the school was presented with a certificate to mark their participation and achievement.

For homework during Science Week, the children were asked to participate in an Endanger Ranger competition. This was organised by the British Science Association and the children were asked to design a poster to highlight an endangered species. They had to include details of why the species had become endangered and then explain how and why the species could be saved from extinction. It was a very hard task to choose the best designs from each year group, which have now been sent off for judging in the National competition. Photos of our entries and our activities during Science Week can be found on the Science page of our school website www.kibprimary.leics.sch.uk thanks to Mrs Windle and the TAs who uploaded them.

April_2The invites to the Science Fair were delivered to the network of schools before Easter. We have had a good response so far from the children, who have really taken on board the enquiry style needed to participate in the Fair. Questions the children are researching include “Will we keep breaking the 100m running record?” and “Are mobile phones safe for children to use?“ The lunchtime sessions arranged for the children to help with their research have been well attended, and the TAs involved have been very impressed by the children’s enquiry skills. We are all looking forward to seeing the children’s presentations at the Fair!
