December and January have been very busy for those involved in Project Synergy!
December started with a seminar all about how to teach Electricity. It was led by the fabulous Judith Green, who got us all to pretend to be electrons, moving around the classroom like an electrical current! When the poker chips came out, we were all really puzzled, but all became clear when Judith changed the circuit, and we had to deliver our “energy” at the appropriate junctions. It was a really fun way to learn all about this very tricky subject, and we were all very grateful to be able to share in Judith’s expertise.
The seminar continued with further clarification of details for the Primary Science Conference, set for the end of January. Every team had come up with some fabulous ideas for workshops and we discussed the logistics of how the conference would work, how we would get the children involved and all the protocols such as Child Protection and Health and Safety.
January came round very quickly, and details of the conference were sent to all of the participating schools to send out to the Key Stage Two children. We had a fantastic response! We now have 220 children booked into the 12 different workshops, and a waiting list! The workshops are being run by a combination of TAs, teachers, parents and local businesses, and include a flight simulator, slime making, rocket launching, meteor madness, implosions & explosions and paper plane design. Everyone is very excited, including the year 10 and 11 pupils from Robert Smyth School who have been drafted in to help. News from the conference will follow next month.
