At our latest seminar, we shared our thoughts about the Conference. Everyone was very keen to make this an annual event, and judging by the comments on the children’s evaluation forms, we won’t be struggling for pupils to attend!
“I loved the fossils because I learnt what they are called” Joshua, Year 4 Farndon Fields Primary School
“I enjoyed the day and I would like to do it again every year” Charlotte, Year 3 Kibworth Primary School
“I liked the rockets, gases and watching Mrs Green doing the experiments at the end. You don’t have to improve anything. It was fun!” Joshua, Year 6 Ridgeway Primary School
The Teaching Assistants that were involved thought that they learnt a lot from the activities and that they could take these new ideas and implement them in their supporting roles within their schools.
However, rather than wait a year we decided that we wanted to hold another event during the Summer. We have chosen to run a Science Fair, where the children choose a scientific question to research, and then they present their findings at the Fair. The entries will be judged by independent judges from local and national companies, local Upper schools and the National Space Centre. We have set up lunchtime sessions for the children to have access to help with their research. These are supported by Teaching Assistants and Teachers involved in Project Synergy. Their findings will be displayed in May.
Finally, Paul Stone demonstrated the latest additions to the Virtual Learning Environment, which all network schools have now received training for. Members of the team were excited by the possibilities of using this within their schools, particularly the video conferencing facility, which can be used to stage experiments in different schools at the same time and as a forum for Teaching Assistants across the network.
