Overview

There are two main action points for this project:

  1. to develop teachers’ professional knowledge and unlock potential through our Coaching Programme and;
  2. to provide all Key Stage 3 students with an exciting opportunity to really engage in Forensic Science in a challenging, practical and innovative way.

Coaching will be used to help teachers deliver Science in more of an engaging way. The coach, as an improvement agent, will help to facilitate change. The coaches will help Science teachers to perform better, developing skills and confidence over a period of time.

The use of the Forensic Science topic will provide an exciting opportunity to develop and extend the teaching and learning repertoire within the Science curriculum. All coachees have a desire to make a difference to student learning and a commitment to professional development. They will be able to discuss practice and core concepts in a challenging yet unthreatening way.

Judges’ comments

Although using forensics is not a new idea, the coaching element of the project is excellent. The project gives good professional development opportunities and is clearly linked to the pupils’ needs.
