Diary Entry - May

Evaluation and Sustainability

May_1As a cross-curricular team, we wanted to join together to develop a project that met our pupils’ needs and provided continued professional development for staff.

We have spent May putting together our 15 minute video, evaluating the project and determining how we will continue to implement the Coaching Programme in 2010/2011.

Throughout the year we have trained our team to become coaches. We have all practised our coaching skills and have each coached another teacher within the Science department. Coaches have acted as critical friends providing an important opportunity for self reflection.

Teachers have shared ideas about best practice in a non-threatening environment of mutual trust and understanding. We have learnt together how to inspire and motivate learners to achieve their maximum May_2potential. We wanted to bring the best out of teachers who, in turn, unlock the world of Science for our pupils.

Coaching conversations have been used to analyse teaching, set direction and plan for future quality learning.  In total 15 teachers have experienced being coached and, of those, 7 have gone on to receive further training in how to become an effective coach. Next year, we shall continue our work within Science, and with two new departments.

We have laid the foundations for further collaborative work next year. On June 16th we are meeting with our Assistant Head teachers to plan how we can build on the success of our Rolls-Royce project and develop Coaching within the Teaching and Learning Academy that will be available to all staff at Moulton. This will be an exciting way to invite other teachers to become involved with Coaching and to provide opportunities for continued professional development.

Finally, I want to thank all the team members for their hard work and commitment throughout the year. In particular, special appreciation must go to our ICT technicians Steve and Phil. Also, I want to thank Ruth who painstakingly prepared the video logs: an arduous task that she completed brilliantly.

The Scientists ensured that pupils received engaging and challenging lessons. They have been supported by English teachers who have also tried to deliver Forensic Science in a creative way.

We have all enjoyed implementing our ideas and look forward to working together in the future.
