Diary Entry - September

Meetings

September has been really busy. After spreading the exciting news to the team that we had received a Rolls-Royce award, Matthew and I began the very difficult task of trying to organise a schedule of meetings in an already packed school diary.

First, we devised an action plan for ‘Coaching and Forensic Science’ that provided a clear set of detailed learning outcomes. We met with the Head, Trevor Jones, and explained how our project would fit into the whole school improvement plan. Then, we presented our aims and objectives to the senior management team. Specifically, we felt it was important to clarify the fundamental principles of coaching and the nature of our science project.

At our first team meeting we agreed specific roles and responsibilities and how best to execute our proposal. We discussed the forthcoming press release with Ellie Backhouse and the importance of gaining ‘informed consent.’

Chris has begun a coaching cycle with Rosie and Adam; I have continued to coach Matthew and Dominic. Areas for reflection have included: Differentiation, Plenaries, Questioning, and Assessment for Learning.

Matthew and Dominic have ordered the materials needed for ‘Talking Bones’ and we’ve decided to ask Moulton School Trust for extra funds in order to purchase another set of class lab coats.  Dominic has secured a particularly good deal on four document cameras; Sherlock Bones has been booked and the caretaker has agreed to bury the evidence 8 times!
