Our project is focussed on breaking down the barriers to learning in science, to develop creative, inspirational resources and learning opportunities which help all pupils, including those with SEN and EAL, to access scientific investigations through a multi sensory approach.
We will work to help children develop their enquiry skills through play based exploration, use ICT to record their learning and engage with local scientists.
Over the last year we have been working hard to engage parents more in school life, getting them involved in helping their children to learn. This will continue through our project this year as parents and children will learn together about healthy eating and forces in family learning sessions.
The parents will also be contributing to the project by making story sacks. A group of mothers are taking part in a creative textiles course run on our school site by Strodes College. During this ten week course they will not only develop their own skills but impact on the learning of their children through the resources they make.
By engaging the parents in the project we hope that learning will continue outside of the classrooms and that parents will help their children to make the connection between the science learnt in school and its application in everyday life.
This proposal has many novel elements and will be of clear benefit to the pupils at Stepgates Community School. The team has been chosen carefully to ensure that there are the skills needed to allow the project to succeed.
