The team has chosen the overall theme of 'The Chemistry of our Solar System’ as its project. The current curriculum will be enriched through new demonstrations and experiments linked to the chemistry and physical conditions on the different planets. These will range from investigating alkali metals linked to the planet Mercury, condensing methane when looking at the moons of gas giants to investigating the conditions required to support life and speed of light investigations.
This project builds on work already carried out at the school to enrich the curriculum including reproducing the solar system using wool by crocheting the planets in relative size and mass.
A project with a good theme that will help to interest pupils that has lots of science. The team's plan brings many areas of science together and has the potential to make a real difference to teaching and learning at the school.
