Shona Findlay, team leader at Crown Woods School, London, was delighted to accept the winner's prize of £15,000 on behalf of her school for their cross-curricular forensic science project. Entitled 'CSI Crown Woods', their project involved 360 Year 9 students in a wide range of crime-solving investigative science activities, such as DNA analysis and fingerprinting. Students were helped by forensic experts at the Metropolitan Police.
In accepting their award, Shona thanked all the team members and colleagues back at school for their hard work in creating and delivering such an extensive project in just two terms. Shona said: "The reaction of the students so far has been absolutely amazing. They're really involved, really excited."
Students at Crown Woods will continue to benefit from the team's innovative approach to motivating interest and enthusiasm for science when the forensic investigation begins again next term.
As part of their award, Shona and her team will also spend an amazing day with the Red Arrows!
